workshop I CAN SEE YOU

Next Saturday I’ll be teaching the first workshop on my I CAN SEE YOU project!  I’m very excited and curious how it will turn out.

It will be a day about beauty, connection, shared stories and awareness. I’m really looking forward to see you all and having a wonderful and fun experience together!!

Binnen gelukkig!

Doc in I can See you project

This is a very interesting project, a therapist I just met said. How did you come up with the idea?
So I showed him the Soul Stories and told him how it all started when I met Doc in 2008 for the first time. It was in New Mexico, my first photography class and I was challenged to..

Star in I can see you art project

This is the project; I make an image of individuals I barely know and talk to them about their lives. In a way this part is like a soul story. Then I print the portrait and ask other people I encounter to look at the photograph of this person and ask them to tell me what they see in this human being they have never met before. The beauty lies in..

I can see you Jos

Dit is Jos in het I can See You art project.

It is ingrained in our culture to only see people like you, white women, as an example of what we should look like.
Indonesian women just don’t feel beautiful. And it is my dream to change that.

In Borneo schreef ze al een boek…my next book will be a self help book: To love yourself.

What do you think? Don’t you agree that loving yourself is the most important thing you can do?

Hello, we are from Syria

Mohamad en Hossam@Maastricht

Ah, here we have to get off the train. Zei de man die zojuist naast me was komen zitten. We come from Syria. En hij knikte langzaam. And this is my son, he is blind.

Sjaak @ Den Haag Soulstories

soul stories

It all started with Doc back in 2008. ‘I’ve lived on the streets since I was 16 years old.’ He told me. ‘My father used to beat my mother up.. now I run tours around…
And I was hooked! I was looking for more of these beautiful encounters where people from all over the world tell me stories about their lives. Where they tell me about their hopes, dreams and aspirations too. I found them on my travels and around the corner of my street. Only to find out what…

midwifery empowerment in Ghana

Women empowerment project

I had the privilege to document the work of SHE collaborates/Maastricht University in Ghana. Their mission is to implement good health education worldwide and in Tamale there is a university running this program. More about my incredible experiences on my first trip to Africa will follow soon. Here is the video made for SHE, on assignment for Nuffic.

soul stories renee, melanie en yousra

In this project I photograph people randomly in the streets all over the world.

I love these beautiful encounters. It makes me happy when people share their stories, their hopes and dreams. Dreams they never told someone else before or dreams they forgot about, and then, because of that short moment we met and made a portrait, they actually make a change in their lives. Just a ‘simple’ photograph seemed to make the difference..

ICH BIN KOLN! nightmares on new years eve

ICH BIN KOLN! Nightmares caught between the webs on new years eve

1200 women got sexually molested by groups of men on new years eve in Cologne. The police could only watch the game. They were told by the government to shut their mouths about what happened because it was not convenient in their policy of welcoming refugees. Everybody is talking about the predators, but what about the women?…are we..
